Who pays for the hay

Running a stable costs something, even a paper one. Here is where our money comes from, and where it never comes from.

Partner commissions

A number of game publishers run partner programmes. Where one of our buttons belongs to such a scheme, an account opened through that click can earn us a fee from the publisher. Signing up that way costs you nothing extra, and the game's own terms and prices stay exactly the same.

What money can't buy here

  • A verdict. Nobody pays us for a review, a better place on the front page or a kinder word.
  • Our nod of approval. If we would steer a friend away from a game, we steer readers away too, partner programme or not.
  • Silence about a snag. Weak points go into the review whether or not its link earns anything.

How to tell a partner link

Every button that sends you to a game's site has a small line beside it saying it may be a partner link, and in the page code those links are marked rel="sponsored". Links inside our own pages, between reviews and guides, are never partner links.

Advertising and partnerships

Publishers, and anyone else with a proposal about advertising or cooperation, can write to [email protected]. We read every offer and turn down anything that would amount to paying for a verdict.

The rest of our rules live in the disclaimer and on how we review.
