Lion pride simulator

Lioden: breeding with teeth

A pride simulator for older players: cubs, territory and battles, an ad-free site and a clear 16+ rule. The catch is that the help pages sit behind the login.

Lioden swaps the stable for the savannah. You lead a pride of lionesses and cubs, ruled by a king who has to hold the ground, and the public front page puts the whole idea in one line: be the king of your own pride, breed the best cubs, defend your territory and battle other lions for supremacy. It is a breeding and collecting game with a predator's edge, and it is firmly aimed at older players.

What it is

Lioden is run by Lioden Ltd, the same company behind Wolvden. Its main areas are the Den, the Crossroads, the Hoard and the Oasis, with the Chatter message boards, a news feed and a dedicated event page around them. The item showcase on the front page, full of masks, crowns and other decorative pieces, shows how much of the game is about the look of your lions as well as their lineage.

There is also a side to Lioden that has nothing to do with play. Each March the team holds an anti-poaching event, and its conservation page says it has donated part of the game's proceeds to the International Anti-Poaching Foundation and Tusk, alongside a list of other wildlife charities it recommends.

How a session goes

Here we have to be upfront about the limits of what we could read. Lioden's FAQ opens only after you log in, so the step-by-step rhythm of a session isn't public, and we won't reconstruct it from guesswork. What the public pages do show is the shape of the game (pride, cubs, territory, battles) and a steady stream of updates: the news page carries a monthly event, regular community updates and numbered development updates.

When the rulebook sits behind the login, the age line and the money line are what you can still read in full. Lioden prints both clearly.

Hayloft Riders, editorial note

The time it asks for

Without the in-game FAQ, we can't tell you how forgiving Lioden is when you step away for a week. What we can say is that a game with a monthly event and frequent community updates tends to pull players back often. Settle on your own rhythm from the first day, instead of letting the event calendar set it for you, and ask in the community about care rules before you build a big pride.

The money side

Free to join. The terms of service name two in-game currencies, Golden Beetles and Silver Beetles, and state that the chargeable feature is currently Golden Beetles, paid in advance. Currency and virtual items can only be used inside the game, and purchases aren't refundable except where the terms or the law say otherwise. The registration page adds that the team doesn't serve any ads on the site; it only asks you to switch off ad blockers while you sign up, as a spam check.

The age line

This is the clearest rule in the group. The terms say you must not register or play if you are below 16, and the sign-up form asks you to confirm that you are at least 16 years of age. Lioden is not a game for younger teens, however much they love big cats.

Who it suits

A good fit if…

  • Big cats, predators and pride politics appeal more than grooming routines.
  • You're 16 or older and like a community with an adult age line.
  • You enjoy styling characters with decorative items.
  • An ad-free site matters to you.

Look elsewhere if…

  • You're under 16. The terms are explicit.
  • You want to read the whole rulebook before signing up.
  • You'd rather skip fighting and territory and simply raise animals.

Strengths and snags

Strengths

  • A clear 16+ rule in both the terms and the sign-up form.
  • No ads on the site, according to the team.
  • Monthly events and regular development updates.
  • A real-world conservation tie-in.

Snags

  • The FAQ is hidden behind the login.
  • Battles and territory won't suit players who want a gentle care game.
  • A paid currency runs alongside the free one.
