Wolf pack simulator
Wolvden: a pack to run, not just a pet to feed
Lioden's sister game, built around pack roles, biomes and genetics with mutations. Best for roleplayers who enjoy delegating.
Wolvden comes from the same company as Lioden (its footer says so), but it isn't a reskin with fur instead of manes. You create a wolf pack leader and settle a pack in one of several biomes inspired by North America and Europe, from the glacier to the desert. The front page calls it a “persistent browser-based game”, and that phrase sets the tone: the world keeps going, and your pack's story is meant to run across generations.
What it is
Wolvden describes itself as a free-to-play browser game with a full breeding and customised genetics system, complete with mutations; an event-packed environment to explore and hunt in; and wide customisation and decoration options for every wolf. Regular updates, lore and roleplay opportunities round it out, with stories that unfold based on your choices. The game opened to the public on 19 October 2020, and its news feed marked the sixth anniversary this month.
How a session goes
Even signing up is a design session. The registration form lets you build your starter wolf from long lists of coat, eye, skin, nose and claw colours, plus layered markings. It is the most detailed character creator of any game in this guide.
After that, Wolvden plays like a small management game. According to the front page, pack members take on roles: hunters form hunting parties and bring down prey in your lands, scouts find new places to explore, herbalists mix medicines and treat injured or sick wolves, and pupsitters stay home to protect the young. Your job is to decide who does what. The help section, a fan-made wiki supported by the game, is organised under Account, Breeding, Gameplay, Grove, Illnesses, Pupsitting and Pup Survival, and Wolves, which says a lot about what you will be keeping an eye on.
A wolf game whose help pages include a chapter on pup survival is telling you what kind of attention it expects.
The time it asks for
The public pages don't publish a daily schedule, so we won't invent one. Still, a persistent world, a help category devoted to pup survival and another to illnesses suggest that the pack notices when you're away. If you want something you can leave untouched for weeks, Flight Rising's forgiving rules are a gentler fit. If you enjoy checking in on a group and adjusting who hunts and who stays home, Wolvden gives that habit a purpose.
The money side
Free to play. The terms of service list two in-game currencies, Gold Cones and Silver Cones, and say the chargeable feature is currently Gold Cones, paid for in advance. As with Lioden, currency and items stay inside the game, and purchases aren't refundable except where the terms or the law say so.
The age line
Wolvden follows the same rule as Lioden: the terms bar registration and play under 16, and the sign-up form asks you to confirm that you are at least 16 years of age.
Who it suits
A good fit if…
- Wolves, wild landscapes and pack life are your thing.
- You enjoy assigning roles and running a team more than caring for one animal.
- Lore and roleplay matter to you as much as stats.
- You want a detailed character creator from minute one.
Look elsewhere if…
- You're under 16.
- You prefer official, publisher-written help pages to a fan wiki.
- You want a game that doesn't mind long breaks.
Strengths and snags
Strengths
- Pack roles add real management decisions.
- Genetics with mutations give breeders long-term goals.
- Regular updates, lore and events.
- The same clear 16+ rule as its sister game.
Snags
- The help pages are fan-made, even if the game supports them.
- A persistent world can feel demanding after a break.
- Gold Cones are a paid currency next to the free one.
