Barn talk: the glossary
The words these games use without explaining them, defined in plain language.
Browser stable and pet games share a vocabulary that newcomers tend to pick up the hard way. Here it is in one place. Where a term belongs to one game, we say which.
- Breeding cooldown
- A waiting period after breeding before an animal can breed again. In Flight Rising it runs from 15 to 35 days, depending on how rare the breed is.
- Clutch
- A group of eggs laid at once. A Flight Rising clutch holds one to five eggs.
- Coat-colour genetics
- Rules that decide a foal's colour and pattern from its parents' genes. Horse Reality models real-world horse colour genetics.
- Discipline
- A competition specialty. In Howrse a horse is specialised in Classical or Western riding, each with its own events.
- Elemental holiday
- A week-long Flight Rising festival for one of the eleven elements, held roughly once a month.
- Equestrian centre

- Familiar
- A companion creature in Flight Rising, paired with a dragon and bonded with once a day.

- A game world that keeps going while you're logged out. Wolvden uses the term about itself.
- Premium currency
- Currency you can buy with real money: passes in Howrse, Golden Beetles in Lioden, Gold Cones in Wolvden, gems in Flight Rising.
- Premium membership
- A paid subscription with extra features. In Horse Reality it also removes advertisements.
- Pupsitter
- In Wolvden, the pack role that stays home to protect the young.
- Soft currency
- Currency earned by playing, such as Equus in Howrse and treasure in Flight Rising.
- Two-factor authentication
- A second login step, such as a code from an app. Neopets' NeoPass supports it.
